Save Funds By Bartering Your Skills
Dee Wright interviewed by Cally Robson

If you're short on cash to develop your new idea, bartering your own skills and time could be the way to get the help you need for your new business idea.

Dee Wright used to be a Strategic Planner at an advertising agency. Her expertise in helping others develop their marketing and branding messages came in handy when she needed other kinds of help to establish her new business idea, The Hairforce - Lice Assassins.

While for Dee her skill set is obvious, for others it is easy to discount valued talents because they are taken for granted. And don't underestimate the value of your time either.

But finding people to cooperate with does more than save you money. It brings in essential fresh perspectives on your new idea.

  • Making the switch from the supportive environment of a corporate office to working by yourself can be lonely.
  • Dee reaches out to get support and feedback from others. Someone from the outside can see things in your new idea that you will be blind to.
  • Barter and exchange help eg Dee knows about planning branding and advertising, so she can help others do this in exchange for their skills
  • It's about pinning down your thinking - much easier to do for someone else's idea than your own
  • It all starts with listening
