Whose footsteps are YOU following in?
Cally Robson

A few years back when I was working on my idea for a new way of storing and using crockery, everything about the process seemed exhaustingly complicated. Even though I had a successful career in product development under my belt.

I was sure, though, that the spirit of adventure and determination that got me travelling the world working for the likes of Disney Consumer Products, building an international dotcom start-up with a friend, and mastering an understanding of the technologies behind interactive TV, would help me work out my next steps and do the right thing with my invention.

Like many creative thinkers, I was always looking for innovative ways to go about things and get ahead.

As I pieced the development process together and made all the classic mistakes (as I know them now, of course!), time whizzed by. Before I knew it, I'd spent 2 years working on my modular crockery idea, only to be pipped at the post in registering a patent.

Even so, my big wake up call didn't come til a couple of years later.

To this day I've been too embarrassed to admit to my friend the profound effect of her throwaway remark. Talking about her experiences at a recent conference of self-development guru, Anthony Robbins, she repeated one of his famous sayings…  “Success leaves a trail.”

I suddenly wondered whose success trail I was following. And realized that it wasn't even on my radar to seek out successful role models.

Nowadays, it seems embarrassingly obvious that the secrets of success lie in the inspiration and information we pick up from others, particularly those who've “made it”.

So my question to you now, just in case it's the right timing for you to hear it, is "Whose success trail are YOU following?"
