So What Does It Take To Crack The US Market And Turn Over £1 Million In 4 Months
Natalie Ellis interviewed by Cally Robson

Many inventors and entrepreneurs give up before they find their way through the product development maze. But there are some who show a level of committment, courage and sheer ingenuity it's obvious they will succeed somehow.

Natalie Ellis has had more than her share of personal and product challenges as she has worked on her clever non-spill pet bowl, the Road Refresher.

And yet, listening to her, you only ever hear the positive and a focus on how keep moving to the next level. She's pretty good at finding ingenious solutions too.

Small wonder that after losing the confidence of investors in Dragon's Den she has found a way to crack the US market in 2008, turning over £1 million in four months.

Video interview 5:58 mins (click on arrow in video below to play)

In this interview, Natalie talks about:

  • What makes her pet bowl a must for any dog owner.
  • The mechanism she invented that makes it non-spill.
  • The importance of designing the prototype herself from her kitchen table.
  • Having a modelmaker make up her own design, rather than product designers.
  • Selling the pet bowl direct from her website www.roadrefresher.com
  • The great solution she found for fulfilment (packaging and sending out) of the product.
  • Her aims to sell wholesale into the US market.
