Innovate10 Competition With Cash Awards For New Technologies and Ideas

While government funding for business is faltering in other areas as massive cuts and restructuring take place, awards and activities aimed at commercial innovation from the government-funded Technology Strategy Board (TSB) seem to be on the increase. One case in point is the Innovate10 initiative

The TSB has announced a competition, and associated exhibition and conference on 12 October 2010 at the Business Design Centre in London, for "disruptive" technologies and ideas in the healthcare, digital, energy, and general sustainability sectors.

If you've got a sound idea in one of these areas, with a top award of £100,000 towards advancing the winning concept, Innovate10 could be worth registering for and finding out more about the competition and the prizes on offer.  They've got a competition cut off date for the first round video pitch of 16 Sept posted at the moment.

Apart from the competition, take a look at some of the topics up for discussion at the conference  to see if it's worth paying the £50 to attend and mingle. The networking could be the biggest benefit here, especially if you're looking for partners to get involved in your concept.

To receive regular emails about all TSB competitions, sign up for their newsletter.  It might mean sifting through some pretty geeky announcements irrelevant to you, but my bet is that in sparse government spending times ahead, this is one source of government funding for innovative new ideas to keep tabs on.
