Passion, The Key Ingredient In Fashion Design

Suzy Middleton-Heath never trained as a fashion designer. But she had a very clear vision for the clothes she wanted to design for older women who couldn't find the fashion they wanted on the high street.

Suzy has gone on to launch her own label, Ruby Plum, which sells now via the web.

In this video, Suzy shares some tips for other home-grown designers:

Summary of Suzy's tips:

  • The importance of having a passion for fashion - a strong reason to bring out your own designs
  • You need to offer something that's not on the high street
  • Don't expect to make money for a couple of years, at least
  • Be prepared to learn as you go along. About everything.
  • As you turn your designs into a business, there's less time to design. But it's creative working on the business itself eg finding ways to market the product you believe in.
