Signed by Cally Robson

Laura Templeton, designer When I signed up for Cally to be my business mentor, I did so after a workshop she led at the British Library. I liked her warm and open manner, as well as her sharp intelligence and business acumen. I imagined the sessions would be about business advice and guidance, but what I get is so much more.

Cally understands that being in business for many women inevitably involves juggling around family caring and nurturing issues, and that although making money is a major motivator, it is by no means the only one. Our session usually happens when I have reached an impasse or crossroads and in desperate need of advice and direction. Cally always manages to help me think clearly and by asking pertinent questions and directs me to which of the "spinning plates" I need to attend to first.

At the end of the session I feel so positive, empowered and know exactly what direction to go in. The email support between sessions is an added bonus, her comments are always enlightening. I just knew she'd be fantastic to work with, my gut instincts were spot on!

Tamara Machavariani, Internet Business OwnerI am also writing to thank you for the inspiration you gave me. Several months ago I read a question in one of your correspondence "Do you understand the potential Internet brings?".

No, at the time I did not, but that sentence never left my head and when the time came pushed me to do my homework, a bit of research, until I realised and discovered AMAZING opportunities I could share from the net.

I have now started my e-commerce business, founded the website www.holistic-warehouse.net and within weeks started to see amazing opportunities the Internet brings!

And I just would like to highlight that Holistic Warehouse has been growing on the seeds your words had planted, and therefore I thank you for the inspiration. I never understimate the power of words!

Hi Cally,

I must thank you again for a wonderful event yesterday. I think the range of guests you chose, and   hearing of  their trails and tribulations, yet overcoming them, was inspirational.

Rachel Pelzig, MaryJane's Popcorn

Juliet Lall, designerHi Cally!

Thank you so much for the presentation. I really didn't know what to expect when I signed up but I was actually overwhelmed, excited and inspired from the session! It was also a great wake up call...

Juliet Lall, designer

"Invention Intelligence is the only resource I have come across that brings together advice on all aspects of inventing. It's not just about giving you information, but also helping you to develop the critical thinking required to take control of your inventing business.

There is no shortage of advice for inventors. Your patent attorney will tell you how to protect your idea, a designer can advise on manufacturing and a marketing expert will give advice on selling. Valuable as this is, there are critical and expensive mistakes which inventors frequently make because their advisors are not looking at the big picture, just their own specialisms. I learned this the hard way with previous projects; if only I had come across Invention Intelligence earlier!

The downloadable Checklists were a great way to audit my strengths and weaknesses, so I was able to set about plugging the gaps.

The Invention Intelligence Workshops helped me to think about myself more constructively and to understand the best order in which to work on each aspect my project.

The Invention Intelligent approach to selling inventions through discussion and building relationships, rather than making a big presentation, has transformed my approach.

I have also been lucky enough to talk through my project with Cally Robson, who's the only person I have met who hasn't just offered good advice, but has guided me through asking and answering critical questions myself. This is a really empowering process that has left me feeling far more in control of my invention's development."

Pip Cartwright, inventor of the FastFast bike lock system, www.fastfast.co.uk

Wendy Howard, networking at industry meeting in China"It's really hard to make time to develop a new product, especially when there are no external deadlines and the day job is the priority. Thinking about the things that Cally has said lets me feel confident that I can eventually succeed in selling my idea, despite and because of all of the other things that happen in life"

Wendy Howard, designer of an innovative closure for the sewing industry

Bhauna Patel, Co-Founder, MomjiiTree therapy centre "We've attended two Invention Intelligence workshops, the first, when our idea was barely formed and the second, when we knew what we wanted to create but couldn't define it. By repeatedly questioning us and helping us to adopt 'Invention Intelligence Thinking' ourselves, Cally helped us visualize our target customers and identify our real differentiators in the marketplace. Most importantly though, she kept us focussed on our ultimate goal and without her contribution at that critical stage, we wouldn't have made the progress we have now."

Bhauna Patel and Ronnie Dandikar, Founders, rest and remedy centre, Momiji Tree www.momijitree.com

"I attended two of Cally's Invention Intelligence workshops, and I'd be very willing to attend another one soon. Basically I found that Cally challenges you on the very basic rules of an entrepreneur setting up a company, and I think that it is these basic challenges that are so important to get right to make sure that your entrepreneurial business is based on sound foundations. For Cally to offer this service in one of the best locations in the UK, the British Library, means you're getting brilliant material delivered by a brilliant person at a brilliant location. You will leave Cally's workshop checking the fundamentals of your business. And let's face it, if you haven't got the time (2 hours) to check the fundamentals of your business, then you should fear what you may be losing. Thank you for your help Cally."

Dear Cally, I'm not sure if you remember me but about 2 or 3 years ago you kindly spent some time mentoring me online which I greatly appreciated.

My name XXXXXXXX and I am a jewellery designer. You gave me a lot of tips on how to manage my time, and abilities.

I just wanted to contact you to thank you again for your help in the past and let you know that I have not forgotten it.

Right now new things are happening.... Also I have been chosen for an ITV programme called Tycoon, run by the multi-millionaire Peter Jones. They said they will be letting me know when things get started.

Anyway, thank you for your time Cally; and I just wanted to let you know how things were developing for me. Thanks again for everything."

Deborah G, jewellery designer

Hi Cally,

Just a note to say a big thank you for your presentation today, it was highly professional, enjoyable, relevant and useful.

I really got the point about letting the potential market dictate what you try to deliver, and what that means in practical terms. I had been  trying to identify which markets we can be most useful in, but re-focusing onto key word research will help me to focus on the most reachable markets in real world conditions, because our story will have to be told in the lingo people already use in their existing group, or more specifically in the language they tend to use in their searches to ask for solutions to their pains and desires. Otherwise, ain't nobody there to listen.

And as for "asking, not selling"....that's going to be useful.

Anyway thanks again for the top notch info.

Jon Bell

"Just wanted to say a big thank you for the seminar you ran last week at the British Library.

The information you provided was invaluable as we have just got to the stage (or so we thought) of approaching companies with our idea. Thankfully we attended the seminar and realised that the next steps we had planned to take would have been the wrong ones ...

... although everything else we have done so far has been in line with what you spoke about on Tuesday. From picturing our customer, to looking at wider uses for our products and even thinking about where we want to be in 5 years time. That was reassuring to say the least."

Graham Oliver, Synaptrix Ltd

When we have asked "What was the best thing about this Invention Intelligence workshop?"...these are some of the replies we have had...

"...A clear route map. Worth coming for the first 20mins alone."

"...Inspiration, confidence, a starting point. I would have liked it to be longer".

"...More clarity and a wider frame of reference."

"...I can see why Prototyping isn't my next step. I see the importance of putting the Customer and Sales thinking hats first."

"...Ideas about using the Web for research and marketing."

"...Learning about the successful mindset of an entrepreneur."

"...The next step. Inspiration + action. A route map."

"...Pointed me in the right direction, in the right order."

"...How to create my Action Plan."

"...Confirmed what I thought I knew, and added inspiration."

"...The successful approach to developing an idea, rather than the common approach."

"...That there are people out there that can help."

"...A structure for assessing my idea's feasibility."

"Building blocks and inspiration to get my ideas into action."

"...The visualizations were very helpful."

"...Ways to get inside the customer's head."

"...Where to start, and focussing on the USP in my idea."

"...Totally inspirational."

"...A practical approach - a lead for future progression with my idea."

"...It is right on the button! - great workshop."

"...How to use the Internet for marketing information."

"...Great ways of evaluating my idea. New ways of approaching my idea."

"...Anybody can make it with their idea!"

"...Clarity and confidence to move forward. Longer session please."

"...The feeling that I can do it! That there is a process I can follow to achieve success with my idea.
